Pretty Huge Obstacles in the Works

In order to wow the obstacle course racing community and beyond, Pretty Huge Obstacles needs to ensure that its facilities exceed everyone’s expectations. Months in the making, and with everyone anticipating its opening, PHO will soon open its doors to the public.

Touted as Asia’s largest indoor obstacle course training facility covering an area of over 2000 square meters with a huge number of obstacles configurable into over 100 combinations, you’re in for a serious workout to help you with your yearning for a different type of exercise or with your weight loss goals. You can work out with your friends or family and have the chance to see national team athletes, too, since PHO is the official training facility of the Philippine Olympic Committee for obstacle course racing.

2019 SEA Games Qualifiers

In order to ensure its facilities are up and ready to take on the crowds, PHO, along with the POC, held the 2nd national training pool qualifiers for the 2019 Southeast Asian Games at Pretty Huge Obstacles itself on December 15, 2018. This gave interested members of the OCR community a glimpse of the facility, the opportunity to experience the obstacles firsthand ahead of the general public, and a true gauge of whether the fitness exercises they’ve been doing in preparation for this were effective.

Over 70 athletes arrived before 12 noon to try and be a part of the OCR national training pool. As they warmed up, lots were drawn to determine the order of racers, and by 1PM, the first competitor was off.

Fourteen obstacles stood in their way as a true test of functional fitness – huge steps going up and down between floors, 1 lap around the 100m elevated track, quintuple angled steps, monkey bars, 5-foot wall, balance beam, small wheels, 9-foot wall, island hops, gymnast rings, weaver, cliffhanger, tarzan swing, and the wave wall. All these were designed to push competitors to their limits, add to that the 4-minute time limit given to each athlete.

Coming Soon

If you think these obstacles are too challenging for you, make it one of your goals this year to overcome these apprehensions. Fitness starts with the will to want it. Weight loss will come, sure, but you have to push yourself beyond your limits. These athletes did just that, and they’ve proven to themselves that no obstacle can get in their way.

Also, remember that functional fitness helps you with your everyday tasks, so think about the benefits it brings: chores become easier, you’re no longer winded after brief moments of movement, and your overall mood improves. It’s not all about just exercising, but general self-improvement.

Don’t worry – Pretty Huge Obstacles will be opening soon, so get ready to give it your all with your fitness goals this year. Watch out for it soon!
